There are currently around 100,000 epilepsy patients in the Netherlands. Of these, around 4,000 adults and children have epileptic attacks throughout the night for which some form of monitoring is desired or necessary. Insufficient detection means are available to monitor night-time epileptic seizures. This causes perplexed carers or cared for nightly stress and many attacks are missed.
The company Livassured, together with leading institutions in the field of epilepsy care (Kempenhaeghe ACE, SEIN and UMC Utrecht), has developed a system that can monitor these attacks, namely the NightWatch. The NightWatch is a detection device that consists of a bracelet with heart rate and motion sensor and an alarm station that gives the notifications. The NightWatch warns caregivers during an epileptic attack. To ultimately market this system, it must be tested extensively with families in home situations. For this we are looking for families who want to test the NightWatch.
CrossCare pilot
As part of the cross-border Interreg Flanders-Netherlands project CrossCare, the Nightwatch will be tested in both the Netherlands and Belgium in a home situation. The purpose of this home test is to understand the use of the NightWatch in a home situation. What is the impact of NightWatch on parents and the family? Is there more rest or not? Does the NightWatch function properly? Are the instruction resources good? These kinds of questions will be answered with the home test. Participants receive a free NightWatch for $ 1,000, and may hold them afterwards.
